Familiar strategies of the republicans and the NRA
Whether the issue is gun violence or climate change, it's a lot easier to make an argument if no one is able to gather data from reality... facts can be annoying when they don't back up your position.
"The reality is that even these and other basic questions cannot be fully answered, because not enough research has been done. And there’s a reason for that. Both scientists in the field and former officials with the government agency that used to finance the great bulk of this research say the influence of the National Rife Association has all but choked off funds for such work."
Obama doesn't hate the troops
Radio and TV talker Glenn Beck (on May 25) said, "Obama is skipping out on a Memorial Day ceremony at Arlington Cemetery because he'll be in Chicago on vacation." On his show, Beck incorrectly asserted that the president "has decided not to honor our troops on Memorial Day."
Beck said, "Maybe this has happened before. I don't recall it."
"The critics were either ignorant of the facts or they failed to mention the 2007 Veterans Day ceremony when Vice President Dick Cheney spoke while President George W. Bush observed the holiday in Texas.
Interesting take on the GOP factions
"One way to understand the divisions in the Republican Party is as a clash of regional philosophies. Northeastern conservatism is moderate, accepts the modern welfare state, and dislikes mixing religion with politics. Western conservatism is hawkish, hates government, and embraces individual freedom. Southern conservatism is populist, draws on evangelical Christianity, and plays upon racial resentments. The big drama of the GOP over the past several decades has been the Northeastern view giving way to the Southern one.
Republicans Say No
Republicans against a decomcratic proposal, no surprise... republicans against reining in big banks, no surprise to me, but we'll see how tea partiers react...
A party devoid of ideas??? You must be forgetting Confederate History Month!
Another great idea, brought to you by the Republican party:
Awwww... poor GOP
"Given all external indicators, the GOP hierarchy should be having a pretty good time right about now.
President Obama's health care plan is still unpopular. The public views Republicans as better able to deal with the messy economy. Polls show that, by a slim margin, voters prefer Republicans to Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections.
What could go wrong?
For starters, how about a meltdown over at the Republican National Committee?"

Republicans in the shadow of healthcare
I'm excited to see the political fallout of the healthcare bill...
Why does GOP only care about polls when they can twist them to their own viewpoint?
It's been interesting how the GOP has rallied around "What america wants," given their view just a few years ago...
RADDATZ: Two-third of Americans say it’s not worth fighting.
CHENEY: So?
RADDATZ: So? You don’t care what the American people think?
CHENEY: No. I think you cannot be blown off course by the fluctuations in the public opinion polls.

Republicans against justice
The latest trend on Fox is to demonize lawyers who defended Gitmo prisoners... what happened to "innocent until proven guilty?" Are they saying that the accused aren't entitled to representation? Is it enough for a state to make a claim that someone should be sent to prison or death?
Powell: America not "less safe" under Obama, as Republicans are claiming
"The point is made, 'We don't waterboard anymore or use extreme interrogation techniques.' Most of those extreme interrogation techniques and waterboarding were done away with in the Bush administration," Powell said. "They've been made officially done away with in this current administration."
"The Transportation Security Administration created by George Bush is still in action working in our airports; they take care of me every day that I go to an airport," Powell told moderator Bob Schieffer.
