Why we're fat

I just saw this food diary of the nytimes restaurant critic and was sickened... on a typical day of his week, he exercises and burns off 500 calories, only to eat 3000+!  I try to consume less than 2000 and run 4-8 miles a day... it seems like people focus on finances and get used to budgeting and saving for financial goals, but have trouble thinking of calories as analogues for dollars... you should only have so many, don't spend them all in one place, a penny saved is a penny earned, etc...  Too bad there isn't a mint.com for our wastelines, to tell us how many calories are currently in our "accounts" and quantify our goals.  (although I've been using myfitnesspal.com lately and it's pretty close...)
